Scholarships for public safety journalism seminar [US]

Reporters, editors and producers covering the crime beat can receive a scholarship to participate in an online seminar.

Poynter is hosting the online seminar “Transforming Crime Reporting into Public Safety Journalism,” May 10 to Aug. 2. The seminar will guide local journalists through a process to reimagine crime reporting.

With input from their newsroom’s leadership team, journalists will craft a strategy to elevate their public safety reporting to better serve their audience.

Two people from each newsroom should participate: a frontline reporter or producer responsible for police and crime news and an editor or manager who can influence editorial policies.

Limited need-based scholarships are available.

The deadline is April 15.
