Call for Applications for the 2024 U-Monitors Program for Student Journalists in Nigeria

The 2024 call for applications for the UDEME Monitors (U-Monitors) Program is Open. This initiative is designed for student journalists passionate about uncovering and highlighting accountability and transparency issues within developmental projects. Our goal is to foster a culture of social accountability, enabling citizens to actively participate in the democratic process by ensuring governmental transparency at all levels.

About the U-Monitors Program:

Since its inception in 2018, the U-Monitors Program has equipped 85 students with the tools and knowledge to track and report on developmental projects within their communities. Our mission is to ensure that funds allocated for these projects are utilised, promoting overall societal development.

Who Can Apply?

 

  1. Campus journalists, recent graduates, and volunteers residing in Nigeria with good writing and communication skills.
  2. Age 18 – 35 years.
  3. Applicants must specify their state of residence and intended location for project engagement. (e.g., students of the University of Uyo or residents in Uyo should indicate Akwa Ibom as their focal state.)
  4. Submission of proof of published works is required (links or scanned copies).
  5. A story pitch of 200 words or less on a procurement-related issue in Nigeria, preferably within the applicant’s state of residence, must be included.
  6. Knowledge of the local dialect of the engagement area will be considered an added advantage.

Fellowship Duration: 6 months
