Media innovators program provides start-up grants [Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania]

Media innovators working on ideas to promote journalism in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania’s rural communities are eligible for this program which provides grant funding.

The Aga Khan University Media Innovation Centre, in partnership with DW Akademie and Media Challenge Initiative (MCI), is offering the 2021-2022 Innovators-in-Residence program.  It is a 12-month incubation and accelerator program that provides mentorship, training and coaching to media innovators in East Africa. 

The program seeks projects that would provide solutions to improve access to information, public dialogue and participation of rural communities.

Nine winning teams, four from Uganda, four from Tanzania and one from Kenya, will receive a monthly stipend of US$1,000 per team and grant funding of up to US$20,000 for their media start-ups.

The deadline is Aug. 31.
